This was the morning (4:47 a.m.) view from the balcony of our hotel room. It’s located on Aurlandsfjord in the town of Aurdal. We’re in Aurdal having finished our time in Oslo. Highlights included seeing the painting “Scream” by Edvard Munch (circa 1893) and watching Ellie eat the biggest cotton candy twirl ever!

Today we drove along and up Aurlandsfjord to Stegastein, an observation area overlooking the fjord. It did not disappoint! The town in the foreground is Aurdal; our hotel is on the right side of the peninsula.

The final stop on today’s road trip was the Borgund Stavkirke. Located in the town of Laerdal, it was constructed in 1200 a.d. It served as a parish church until 1893 when it was turned into a museum. This wasn’t my first time seeing the Borgund Stavkirke. There is a replica at the Scandinavian Heritage Park in Minot, ND, my growing up home. As well, the Borgund Stavkirke is carved into the backrest of the kubbe stool which sits in the entryway of my home. The kubbe stool is a traditional Norwegian living room chair. The one in my home was carved by my Dad.
