When my sister and I were cleaning out my parents’ safety deposit box, we found notes (with money still inside) that my dad received from his Grandpa Hersch–his mother’s father. I knew Grandpa Hersch was important; I didn’t know how important until that day.
Grandpa Hersch’s family was from Germany and/or central Europe, but he married Scottish women. Yes, women. Grandpa Hersch’s first wife, Elizabeth, died when my dad’s mother (also Elizabeth) was six years old. Then he married Caroline, or as my dad affectionately referred to her, “Grandma Callie.”
It seems fitting, then, for this generation’s Caroline and Elizabeth (Ellie) to finish our overseas adventure in Scotland. (And Brad is happy to join us!)
Here’s a few images of our time in Edinburgh.

I drove in Norway, but Brad will try driving in Scotland tomorrow. (Ellie will navigate and I’ll close my eyes in the back seat.) Brad will post about that adventure, so stay tuned!
Blessings along the way,
Caroline
